Home Archive 2009 Monthly report January

The new year began and with it the first rain set in.
In this month a new tank project was initiated in a surrounding community with 7 families, who had great difficulties with their water supply. In this surrounding community the people have not enough land to gather a sufficient harvest and therefore had to suffer from famine the last year for two weeks. Besides, they do not have clean drink water in this region and thus always have drunken the dirty water from a clay pit next to the street. The most urgent works have already been finished at the tank close to the community, so it can be filled up with water. With being completed before the first little rain period, meanwhile a lot of water was collected there.

The complete team of the education centre paid Father Christian a visit in Pernambuco. Father Christian leads water, tree seedling and bee projects there, which are also supported by our organization. Besides, other projects were visited like "Serta", a farming school for adolescents, which counts on an eco friendly cultivation of soil. These visits are important for an exchange of ideas between the Brazilian help organizations and possibly to found new partnerships.
These days a lot of progress can be seen in our reforestation project. Our goal to produce 15000 tree seedlings until mid-February, to distribute them to the families in the surrounding communities and to plant them, is almost achieved.
Very successful went our first visit of American tourists, who we get to know on their journey through Brazil for almost one week. They e.g. participated in a Mutirão to renovate a house in "Varelo de Baixo". Above that a kid's party took place and the water, goat, reforestation and bull projects were visited. This visit was such a success that we already received two new requests for March and August. Very cent of the earnings of tourism will exclusively be forwarded to indigent families here in the North East. In the following years we will extend our eco tourism in our projects. Prospects get information about the prices and the project right from us.
